The Sleep-Weight Connection

According to the National Sleep Foundation, the average amount of sleep required by an adult varies for each individual, based on gender, sex, physiological factors and more. You’ll know you’ve achieved a sufficient amount of sleep when you wake up naturally, feeling rested, refreshed and ready for your day.1 For some this will be 6 hours, for others, it will be 9. Most likely, you’ll fall somewhere in between.

The problems begin when you don’t hit that sweet spot in the number of hours that your body associates with feeling well-rested- particularly when it becomes habitual. As you continue to deprive your body of its required hours of rest, the damage can go deeper than just feeling tired. In fact, sleep deprivation will begin to create difficulties in many parts of your body, making your entire system work less efficiently2.
